Our annual volunteer appreciation event, Toast to Compost, was held at the Infield Farm of the Del Mar Fairgrounds this year. More than 50 guests – Master Composters and volunteers who have dedicated over 20 hours of their time to our programs – enjoyed a golden sunset amid the picturesque Farm.
The area was midway through its transformation to become a stunning, educational spectacle for the San Diego County Fair, so volunteers were able to check out the incoming displays, building excitement for the summer’s festivities. We celebrated with delicious food generously donated by Chipotle; a fascinating lecture by guest speaker Kevin Muno, president of Land of Milk and Honey and Ecology Artisans, about his ventures in permaculture; raffle prizes from local, pro-social businesses; and the awarding of the Golden pitchfork awards.
We would like to extend a special thank-you to our many product donors who helped make this event so wonderful.
Our Events Intern, Rachel Croft, created the event's whimsical ambiance with her delightfully crafted decor. And, a big thank you to our amazing volunteers who make our programs possible!
