Free Manure Management & Composting Workshop - Escondido

This workshop will show you how to both protect your local watershed and produce a fantastic soil product from large animal manure.

Composting is easy and inexpensive. Improper disposal of manure is unsightly, breeds flies, may create health hazards, and can contaminate local streams and water sources. Using composted manure on your garden and landscaping will help your plants thrive and conserves water, too!

Our site provider, Escondido Creek Conservancy, works to preserve 3,000 acres of biologically-sensitive land in the Escondido Creek Watershed. They collaborate with local organizations to provide environmental education that engages the next generation of conservationists. The Elfin Forest Interpretive Center, our presentation space for this workshop, is the result of a partnership between the Escondido Creek Conservancy and Olivenhain Municipal Water District.

The workshop will cover the following:

  • Basic composting
  • Manure composting
  • Manure management
  • Preventing odors and flies
  • Benefits of composting
  • Protecting local water sources
