Getting Started with Vermicomposting - City of San Diego & County of San Diego

Composting with worms is an environmentally-friendly way to turn food waste into nutrient-rich castings for plants or garden beds. Our webinar will help you confidently establish a vermicomposting system. This is Part 2 of our 4-part vermicomposting series.

Creating a happy home for composting worms is the first step toward successful vermicomposting. In this 1-hour webinar, you'll learn about the needs of red wiggler worms and how to provide for them as you set up your worm bin. Our experienced educators will explain how to prepare bedding, introduce and feed your worms, and ensure your wiggly friends are comfortable in their new home.

The webinar will be held using Zoom, so please note that you will need to have the Zoom application installed on your device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) to attend and participate. You will receive the link to join upon registering.

This webinar is funded by the City of San Diego and County of San Diego and is intended for residents of those jurisdictions. Anyone may attend, however, the webinar recording will be available for 7 days after the live presentation to unincorporated County and City of San Diego residents only.

In this webinar, we will cover the following topics

  • Selecting and siting your worm bin
  • The importance of bedding and how to prepare it
  • What and how to feed your worms
  • What to expect after starting your vermicompost system
