Whistle while you work -- and learn!
This is a great opportunity to expand your composting repertoire with the aerated static pile or ASP. *
We'll start off with a short lecture explaining the process, and then we'll jump right into an actual compost pile build on-site at an organic farm in Ramona. Nestled in the Laguna foothills, Surprise Farm Retreat Center (SFRC) is an educational organization offering workshops, seminars, and discussion groups on the relationships between nature, culture, community, self, and well-being. Check out their website!
Attendees should plan on getting dirty, wear closed-toe shoes, and ideally be comfortable lifting 25-35 pounds of materials (if not, we can find other activities for you to do).
Feel free to pack a picnic lunch, and stay on after the workshop to enjoy the scenery and local wildlife. A light snack and drinks will be provided.
When: Thursday June 23, 2022 8:00 - 11:00 am (starting early to beat the heat!) Spaces are limited. Sign up now to reserve your space.
Where: Surprise Farm Retreat Center (SFRC) in Ramona
*What is an ASP compost? ASP systems use large pipes that circulate air from fans through the pile, eliminating the need to physically aerate the composting organic material. This system can manage large quantities of waste and makes it particularly suitable for manure or large volumes of food waste.
