"Shoo, Fly, Shoo!" Pest Control for Livestock Owners - County of San Diego

***NEW DATE - Rescheduled from March 17*** Join Solana Center for this 1-hour webinar to learn strategies for combating pesky flies around livestock, with a focus on effective manure management. Offered in partnership with San Diego County Farm Bureau, this is Part 2 of our 4-part Farm & Ranch Composting Series.

Flies can deliver painful bites. They irritate and stress livestock, and can transmit diseases, potentially creating serious health issues for your animals. In this 1-hour webinar, we will discuss an array of strategies you can use to control flies on your property, including the important role of manure management. We will be joined by guest speaker, Nancy Reigler, owner of Ramona's Oasis Camel Dairy, who will explain her approach to reducing flies among her camels and other livestock.

This webinar is funded by the County of San Diego and is intended for residents of unincorporated County. Anyone may attend, however, the webinar recording will be available for 7 days after the live presentation to unincorporated County residents only.

Help us get the word out to other unincorporated residents! You'll be entered to win a raffle drawing for every resident you get to attend the webinar. If you get someone to register, email kelsea@solanacenter.org and we'll create a raffle entry for you.

In this webinar, we will cover the following topics

  • The importance of controlling flies around livestock
  • Using a multi-pronged approach: biological, chemical, and physical
  • Using predators, traps, and sprays
