Manure Management for the Small Ranch or Farm - County of San Diego

Learn how to protect your local watershed and produce a fantastic soil amendment from manure. This webinar will demonstrate managing manure from a small amount of livestock.

Improper disposal of manure is unsightly, breeds flies, and can create health issues for your livestock. It also can contaminate local water sources. Using composted manure on your garden and landscaping conserves water, mitigates erosion, sequesters carbon, and can help your plants thrive.

Come join us as we virtually visit a Lakeside ranch to watch a compost pile build in process and chat with owner, Lisa Wood. This webinar will address manure composting for a small amount of livestock, for instance, 1-6 horses.

During the webinar we will be joined by guest presenter, Lisa Wood. Lisa has 35 years experience as an environmental professional, currently as a Principle Planner for the City of San Diego, where she has extensive involvement with Miramar Greenery. Lisa is a noted speaker and award-winning author, who has published two books about her two 1000+ mile horse rides. She has over 40 years experience in horse ranch & stable operations.

In this webinar, we will cover the following topics:

  • Manure composting*

  • Benefits of composting

  • Protecting local water sources

  • Preventing odors and flies

*Please note that the basics of composting will be covered very briefly during this webinar. For more in-depth information on composting, please register for one of our Backyard Composting webinars. If you are unable to attend these, we anticipate scheduling similar webinars in the upcoming months, and recommend reading our Compost It Yourself guide.
