Composting Workshop and ASP Build at Terra Madre Gardens

Help out at our combo composting workshop and compost pile build!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for this event.  Unfortunately, all volunteer positions have been filled. Please return to our volunteer opportunity page to check out more great events!

Make a difference and help our community learn about improving the quality of our soil, reducing waste and air pollution and saving energy, money, and water through composting! Assist one of our Solana Center educators during the one hour presentation and at the same time, learn the basics of backyard composting.

After the presentation we will get hands on as we build an aerated static pile (ASP) together. Aerated static piles (ASP) are a method of mid-scale composting for those that produce more organic waste than the average household: farms, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Learn about composting on a larger scale and help us turn hundreds of gallons of organic materials into a delicious soil amendment!

In this workshop, you will assist with:

  • Setting up our presentation area (tables, chairs, info material, etc)
  • Event sign-ups and registration
  • Advancing PowerPoint slides or handling our flip chart
  • Sharing props and visuals
  • Preparing organic waste materials
  • Filling an ASP with organic waste materials
  • Packing up supplies
